Tarot User Presents: The Rider-Waite Deck The Major Arcana |
ICONS The Major (or greater) Arcana incorporates twenty-two (22) cards, numbered from zero (the Fool) to 21 (the World). Like all of the cards of the Tarot deck, each of these cards bears a title and a picture. The images included are symbolic and/or allegorical. Their force is intuituvely distilled/derived from larger bodies of knowledge and the knowledge of their force is hidden within the pictures. The symbols of the Major Arcana are related to the deepest of universal meanings. These meanings may be of a spiritual nature, or of an emotional one. At all times, the meanings indicated by cards of the Major Arcana are universal meanings -- meanings which may be shared, oftentimes across cultures. (more) |

Traditionally, the Major Arcana depicts the greater events in our lives. The cards of the Major Arcana influence the meaning of the cards around them. Their influence is particularly noticeable in the "Medium Draw" (the three card spread), the "Complete Draw" (the Celtic Cross Spread falls within these parameters), and the "Total Draw" (a 12 or even 15 card spread). In the Medium Draw, Arcana cards serve to complement, specify or reinforce the meaning of the card or cards immediately to the left or to the right of them. Please note, that if a Major Arcana is positioned as a "Result Card" in a Celtic Cross spread, its significance may be extremely important.
